Trikala Attractions - The Osman Shah Mosque
The impressive Osman Shah Mosque or Kursum Mosque, attracts the visitor’s eyes at the end of the city center.
The impressive Osman Shah Mosque or Kursum Mosque (which means “lead mosque” in Turkish), it was built in the middle of 16th century by the famous architect Sinan Pasha and out of all the many mosques that the town used to have, this is the only one preserved. According to the tradition, prince Osman Shah, son of Sultan Suleiman, built the mosque when he was healed from his ailing illness in Trikala. The exact date of its construction is unknown but is speculated that it was built about ten years before the death of Osman, who was buried in the neighboring tube (mausoleum) in 1567. Today, it is a listed monument protected by UNESCO and is used as a cultural facitlity for events like exhibitions or lectures.The entrance to the Mosque is free.
